We all know our bodies love variety, from changing workouts at the gym regularly to eating a rainbow of fruit and veg every day, but what about when it comes to our skin? Journal spoke to our resident expert, Rachael Collins to find out.
Everyone has their favourite products; that moisturiser they swear by, the cleanser that always removes all the day’s dirt and the eye cream to end all other eye creams however, Rachael says that sticking to the same product isn’t always what’s best for our skin:
“We all love the variety of life, so why is this any different in the skincare world? My philosophy is listen to your body, observe your skin. It will talk to you, through change, harmony and texture. If you have a serum that works for you stick with it.
If you are feeling uninspired with your beauty cabinet mix it up, treat yourself. My only firm advice on this matter would be to keep it clean, NEVER buy products with nasty’s such as parabens, SLS’s, bulkers and additives. It’s pointless and let’s not feed these manufacturers any further. You are what you eat and the same goes for what you put on your skin.”
Although mixing up products can be beneficial for our skin, ensuring you have a regular skin care routine is vital. Skin regenerates every 27 days, which means that it’s important to have a facial once a month to support and nurture the skin during its natural cycle. All the active ingredients and high quality antioxidants will boost your complexion even more.
Rachael says: “The same rule applies to the skin as applies to working out. Our muscles have memory and yes they get bigger and better if we adopt a workout routine. Skin is really not that different. Feed it, treat it and look after it.
Our skin also has memory and a natural regeneration cycle. Upkeep of treatments such as LED Light Facials are low maintenance, non-invasive and boost the assist in the skin’s natural journey. Doing these as often as you can within a month timeframe will put you at the top of the leader board.
If you fall off the wagon don’t worry you can get back to your brand new complexion! However, be warned leave it too long and it might be too late.”
So, just like the gym, regularity is the way to ensure your skin is always in the best condition whilst mixing up and changing products when your skin demands it.
